The starting point is the work already happening in your company: a decision that keeps getting delayed, a process that depends on somebody remembering the next step, a customer opportunity that goes quiet after the first conversation, or a team that keeps rebuilding the same material. First, get clear on the problem. Then decide whether AI has a useful job in it.
AI doesn’t belong in every business problem. Sometimes the answer is a new process or an existing process that needs attention.
A tool only helps when it has a job inside the business
AI technical knowledge alone doesn’t tell you what to build or what to buy. A prompt, bot, workflow, or automation earns its place when it helps the business bring in more revenue, reduce an unnecessary expense, or keep a task from disappearing while it moves between people and departments.
That could mean giving a recurring sales proposal a better starting point. It could mean making internal knowledge available when work changes hands. It could mean deciding that a process needs attention before any AI tool gets added to it.
When I look at an opportunity, the questions are practical:
- Where does the work begin?
- Who adds information or makes a decision?
- What needs to happen next?
- Where does the work slow down? Does it get rebuilt or fall through a handoff?
Those answers help determine whether there is an AI job worth doing, and what the tool would need to do.
